Telles qu'elles project
Telles qu’elles was a symbol of hope and had many objectives. We wished to free women with disabilities from the medical model of disability, to make their experiences known, and to enable the public to demystify their perceptions of these women.
We wanted to do more than provide opportunities for training and support for women with disabilities through a mentorship program; we wanted to enable them to express their artistic potential and to raise their self-esteem and their capacity to affirm their voice.
We also wanted to create a showcase for the discovery of new artists with disabilities through the show, the exhibition, the publication, and the Action des femmes handicapées (Montréal) website.
Finally, by creating an accessible, bilingual and multicultural activity, we wanted to make a large audience aware that accommodation measures are assets for everyone and to initiate a significant and informed dialogue with the public.
