Mission and objectives

AFHM: A tool at our command

  • To defend and promote our rights, interests and personal goals as women living with disabilities, from the perspective of equality between the sexes and in self-determination.
  • To be open to physical, sexual, cultural, political or other differences.
  • Self-help, and the exchange of ideas, are values that support our actions in the search toward the fulfillment of our autonomy.

AFHM pursues the following goals:

  • Identification of our social, medical, legal, and employment needs.
  • Works for the practical application of recommendations released by various research actions carried out by our organization.
  • Provides information on services which could improve our quality of life.
  • Personal enrichment and development of membership through interpersonal exchange and collective action.
  • Teaches new skills and awareness.
  • Representation through lobbying governments and involvement with media.
  • Participation in groups at the community level (Women’s groups and groups of people with disabilities) as well as government to sensitize them to our “Combined discrimination”.
  • The exchange of our specific life experience in a world which does not always recognize our reality.
